Helpful Tips on How to Maintain and Secure Your Laptop Or Desktop
When it comes to maintaining and
securing, some of the information may sound obvious
but it helps to be reminded at times.
Maintenance
Defragging
It is quite basic really but the
consistency of this will help your computer and help
your wallet as well because your Laptop or Desktop
will see less trips from a computer technician. Over
time with all the files on the hard drive things get
fragmented, kind of like a disorganized office with
papers everywhere, so it takes a little while for
the computer to find the file that was selected. But
when the computer is constantly defragmented or organized,
it is easier for the computer to find the files you
are looking for.
Updates
There will be online updates that
will pop up for your computer and yes it can be a
pain at times because it seems like your computer
is updating almost every time you log on to your computer.
But it helps your computer to run as smoothly as possible.
Most of the time the updates are free so when your
about to click cancel on that update remember that
those updates are there to help so why not take it?
Anti-virus Anti-spyware, and Firewall
protection
The faster the broadband the more
opportunities spyware and viruses can infiltrate your
system. Most systems already will have some anti-virus
and anti-spyware already with the new system. If not,
there are some free trials on the net but its best
to get the real thing with all the tools that come
with the anti-virus or anti-spyware software. It is
always recommended to have your firewall turned on
when your system is online. There are tools to use
to filter every website your system can go too.
Securing
Passwords
These are tools a hacker or just
a person being mischievous and wanting to mess with
you just to make your life a little bit more complicated.
So your password is quite important and you should
change it every couple of months. The password should
be inserted with numbers and symbols so it will make
it that much harder for a person to crack your password.
For an example I will use the word Harmonica if it
is just used like that a brute force program (A cyber
security tool that was abused) can crack it in seconds
but if it looks like this: haRm0n1cA it is harder
for the program to crack. Yes it is a little annoying
to keep glancing at your notepad that you saved your
funky password on but it is worth the extra time to
keep your computer secure and sometimes even your
Identity.
Deleting cookies
Cookies are little files that help
you load your favorite websites a lot quicker and
sometimes if entered into the wrong type of website
they would put cookies on your system and send you
to pop-up hell, and what type of websites usually
send that type of cookies your way. Thats right porn
sites..
But by deleting your cookies every
couple of days can help keep your computer running
the way it should instead of being bogged down by
a ton of tiny files.
This article is not even the
tip of the iceberg of what it is to maintain and secure
your system, but there are a few little tips you may
have already heard or may not have heard but can be
used often to help you system be all that it can be.
We hope our news, articles
and information will help you make an informed choice
when buying a Computer
